MEET EMILY, YOUR INSTRUCTOR

"Respond to every call that excites your spirit." - Rumi

As is true with many yogis and yoginis, Emily first turned to yoga as a means of stress relief and self-expression while studying at the University of New Hampshire.

After graduating in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in English/Journalism, Emily soon realized that she was called toward a more colorful and grounding lifestyle, and thus began searching for something to satisfy the sense of wanderlust that occupied her soul.

Studying vinyasa flow and hatha yoga under Daniel Orlansky and Liz Owen at Yoga of Energy Flow in Arlington, Massachusetts, Emily expanded her knowledge of yoga, of its history and traditions, and learned to listen to everything that compelled her.

But the search still continued to find a place to grow and expand in the realm that is modern yoga.

Combining both a whimsical, lighthearted sentiment with the traditional roots of yoga, the idea of yoga parties seemed like a good fit for what Emily was looking for.

Teaming up with her mother, Debbie, who turned to yoga after suffering for years with a lower back injury (and who was the inspiration behind the yoga party idea), Emily has worked to create a safe in-home service that will allow students to learn about and to deepen their yoga practices in the company of friends, family, and fun.

Emily's motivation for The Modern Yogi, LLC, is to bring the yoga studio, and all of its peace and honesty, to those who want to delve into their own practices and explore a new-found sense of self. Her creative background allows her to pay close attention to individual needs, and to custom-design classes for everybody.

When she's not out hiking the White Mountains, exploring new places, or teaching yoga, Emily can be found playing the guitalele, sipping some herbal tea at a local coffee shop, and enjoying all that life has to offer.
